In Nebraska, Husker football reigns supreme—almost to the point of religion. All other sports? Meh… and as a former Husker swimmer, I should know. The challenge was to build excitement around the under‑appreciated (and usually underperforming) basketball program. In one of those ‘Client is coming in tomorrow and we’ve got zip’ moments (they didn’t say ‘zip’), I headed to Duffy’s Tavern, had a beer or two, and coined ‘Nebrasketball’ on a bar napkin.
It sparked excitement with players and fans right away, and since then it’s taken on a life of its own, working its way into the vernacular of sportscasters, supporters, Twitter trends, and now finding new life across social media.
